Who's close to an Academy? They have a Rem ADL in 243 that I want but it says in stores only. Anyone want to pick one up for me and send it my way?

Yup!!! Gonna send it right to Karl to lighten the action and flute the bolt. Then going to put on an Alaskan TI stock and see how it shoots...if it doesn't shoot then a 22" #2 1/8 will get screwed on...

We have an academy in Wichita, other side of town though, so I don't stop there often to know what's on their shelves.

Talk to a local FFL and have Your Rifle ordered & delivered.....not sure if a Person/Individual is allowed to buy a Rifle/Gun for someone else?

Not legal to buy for someone else, but perfectly legal to buy a rifle, then sell it.

You're getting very close to a straw purchase in all these scenarios, maybe even crossing the line. Not a good idea to push it. To do it legally, you'd still need to send it to an FFL if it crosses state lines anyway. Academy could do it just as easily without any legal issues.

I have a c&r license (essentially an ffl to allow collectors to buy and sell as part of collecting itself. ) Buying an eligible collectible gun for somebody else or simply to flip it is a no-no even then. That's dealing in guns, not collecting. Here, we're talking a modern gun when neither party has an FFL. Not good.

The feds expect you to buy a gun with the idea that you will keep it, at least for a while. They consider it dealing when you buy a gun with the idea of quickly getting rid of it in a sale (gifts are an exception). For that you need an FFL.

Jeepkid, you're also in California. That adds another level to the legal complexity as you have special laws out there.
