I do want to add, when I had the 6.5 Gibbs built, I was hearing from a lot of owners who had Ray Romain build theirs that we're getting 3300 fps or more from them, however my failure to research what components they were using has left me with a rifle which shoots extremely well for one is slow compared to most, and is a bit finicky about jacket thickness due to a cut rifled barrel compared to the button rifled barrels of the other guys who shoot them, if I were gonna do it all over again, I would go with a lilja 8 twist 30" barrel chambered in 6.5/06 AI, would shoot at least as fast, easier to form, and easier on the brass.

Yer gonna talk me into that 6.5/06 AI yet...LOL I have a buddy with a standard 6.5/06 who's a huge 6.5 fan, and the 6.5/06 is his favorite as well. I am already looking for another long action donor rifle....

Greg, if you are well versed in ballistics and how to set a rifle up for long range shooting, you couldn't go wrong with the 26 nosler, but as short as the barrel life will be, no use wearing out a barrel learning how to use it. Since I don't know your experience level this is the best advice I can give you

talk to the nosler guy at the Harrisburg pa show today the 26 nosler is a 7mm rem ultra mag cut and necked to 6.5. the dummy round he had was marked 7mm rem ultra mag. he said barrel life was no different then that of any other 6.5 round, and the average shooter would not shoot out the barrel.

Wouldn't take that as gospel the 6.5 STW will last 900 rounds, and it's capacity is less than a 7mm Rum. It's basically the same as a 6.5 Allen mag, it also uses a 7 Rum case but it has the Kirby Allen shoulder and throat angle, awesome performance but it costs ya

I wonder how much they cut off? They are saying it'll fit in a standard size action and a RUM won't, that's why the Ruger or Dakota made sense...
