Help!
I just got a Knight Bighorn inline muzzleloader from my dad and I dont know what caps to get for it, its 15 years old and he forgot
|
I don't shoot a Knight but I would imagine that you could go to their website and either get the info or send them an email and ask.
|
Run this question past the guys in the Muzzleloader Forum. I'll bet they'd know.

Without seeing it I can't be 100% for sure. If you can post a pic, we can tell you.
99% sure that it will take #11 caps. There's only 3 possibilities, #11 caps (standard on that gun back then), Musket cap (not many had these), and 209 primer. 15yrs ago they didn't offer that, but it could have been upgraded to it. |
thanks I will be going to town today and I'll get the #11 and hopefully I'll get to shoot it today!

also if anyone knows, do all muzzleloading cleaning atachments fit on all ram rods?
|
You should be fine. Most are all adaptable. Get a jag and some patches for sure, and I would also get a brush. Be sure to clean your gun well after you shoot, and oil it for storage. BP and BP substitutes are very corrosive if left in the gun not cleaned.
On the breech plug, you can use BP grease (anti-seize) or white teflon tape. I prefer the grease in my plunger Knights. |

If it uses the red plastic "jacket" it uses 209 primers. These jackets are loaded with the primer and then placed into the breech to fire the rifle. Very common.

Part of the confusion is that with Knights, you typically get a nipple for a #11 cap and musket cap...Then the disc model uses a orange disc and the disc extreme uses a red disc...With either disc a 209 primer is inserted into the disc...These guns don't have nipples for caps...Older Knights can be upgraded to use newer systems...Also, in some states you cannot legally use a 209 primer for ignition, so Knight covers their bases by giving you options...
So, if the Bighorn uses caps they are either #11 size or musket sized...The easiest thing to do is take the nipple off and take it to the gun shop so you can pick out the right size...The same with the ramrod, take it with you so you will be able to see what size it is threaded for, or take it to the nearest hardware store and see what it is threaded for... |
