No, perforated primers are definitely something that you don't want.

However, like I posted earlier, the firing pin on THAT rifle would not strike the primer hard enough to fire a rifle primer. I put hundreds of rounds with the large pistol primers through that rifle with exactly zero perforated primers. They worked fine in THAT rifle. All of my other rifles have absolutely no problem firing rifle primers, so I wouldn't even think of using pistol primers in them.

I was only explaining why someones rifle wouldn't consistently shoot rifle primers and why the pistol primers they used worked. Fixing the rifle would be the thing to do.

Very true.
And a new firing pin spring ( 10 bucks from Brownells) would probably do the trick.

Bought a new Browning A-Bolt years ago. misfired about every 4th round. Firing pin put a dent in the primers, but it wasn't striking very hard. Took it apart, cleaned it up and never had a problem after that.

Had it happen this season while looking through the scope at a big white tail doe. I got her later the next day anyway.

It was a federal 30-.06 180 grain. Hasn't happened since or before.

I chuck it up to god really likes me.
Actually God loves you.

And like others said: you are one lucky man. Let this experience sink in real good so you don't do it again.

Peace.

This story reminds me of my last range session: I was shooting a muzzle loader and the ball got stuck just inside of the barrel. To get the ball down the barrel I had to literally hammer the rod with a rubber mallet. The whole time I kept thinking "God please don't let this go off I really want to keep my hand!"

Odds are very slim. You better buy a lottery ticket.
