RE: iron sights

I use iron sights on my little 6.5x55 Swede only because it has a peep which is superior to normal iron sights.

Dear Konaboy,
What`s a Konaboy doing in Canada? Course I guess you could say whats a Kailua guy doing in Oregon. Wishing I was back in Hawaii bodysurfing or hunting pigs/goats in Kau or Mana road I guess.

I use both and agree as your eyes get older most open sights are almost worthless for fine shooting. How many of you keep both eyes open when using a scope?

Only one of my rifles has a scope on it, and thats my .223 Varmit rig. All the rest are strictly open sites. Its hard for iron to fog up during those early morning hunts. ;)

RE: iron sights

I really like having iron sights in case something goes wrong with the scope. For day hunts, it's no big deal (just keep another rifle back in the truck), but if I'm going deep into the mountains for multiple days I tote my old M70 with scope and irons. If I slip and bash the scope, I'll pull an allen wrench out from the butt pad, remove the scope, and be back in business (albeit at a shorter range).

I feel that only True marksmen, use iron site/peep site, that scopes do have their place in hunting for those long shots, and snipeing, for those...really long shots, so far i have only shot, peep sites, on friends rifles, and have open site, on my other rifles, not my question is....where can i get about 4 good peep or latter site, for 22bolt action rifles?

I do as do my hunting partners.None of my rifles have iron sights.I have never had a scope fail in the field and scopes are faster(for those of us that are used to them) and much better in low light conditions.

RE: iron sights

You can order a lot of rifles with or without iron sights it just depends on what the dealer orders . There are some rifles that only come with iron sights like levers ,pumps or auto's ,but most bolts sights are optional . not all unfortunately

Kona is the kind of mountain bike that I want so I can get in shape for hunting season.:)

RE: iron sights

I only use iron sights when I have no choice, like in some ML seasons, or because a scope got broken. Iron sights (aperture type) are quite satisfactory out to 250-300 yards WHEN THE TARGET IS PLAINLY VISIBLE! But most game animals make it difficult to see them well, if they can!
