Tikka Accuracy
I have been considering getting a Tikka Left Hand Bolt in 270. I have looked at them in a couple gun stores. How many grades do they come in. Is there more that one model in the LH bolts? To those who have them, how do they compare for accuracy with other rifles you have had. With my bad shoulder, the 270 is about all the recoil that I can handle. Also considering a new Remington pump as my right arm is good and I can work a pump reak well. Any thoughts.

RE: Tikka Accuracy
I just bought a tikka T3 in .270 about a month ago. I have shot 6 boxes through it so far all shot around an inch at 100 yards or better. I do believe the T3 comes in left hand and would recomend this gun over any. I have been in love with it since the first shot. I have decided on the Hornady customs as my cartridge of choice. It shoots the 140 interlocks just a hair over a half inch cosistantly with a few 2 shot 1 hole hits. Tack driver in every sense. I would recomend this gun over and over. The Tikka' s are my favorite right now. The bolts are as smooth as silk as well. they simply glide. Good luck with your choice.

RE: Tikka Accuracy
I bought a Tikka T3 about a month ago and have shot 6 boxes through it so far. Accururacy is second to none. Blows my remingtion out of the water with not much comparison. It does come in Left hand I do believe. However, the Whitetail hunter is also available. My Tikka shoots an inch or under with just about any ammo out there. I have tried 5 different brands and grains so far. However I have stopped since the Hornady interlock 140' s are shooting around a half inch groups at 100 yards. I have shot a couple 2 hole 3 shot groups. Unbeliveable for an out of the box rifle in my opinion. The bolt Glides back and fourth. Good luck with your choice. I recomend the tikka over all others for obvious reasons.

RE: Tikka Accuracy
Tikka have only the whitetail Hunter available in a LH. I have 2 LH bolts 1 a Browning abolt SS Stalker in 270 and the other a 700 rem BDL Custom DM in a 7 rem Mag, both are solid guns and capable of shooting much better groups than I am, but I can usually shoot under 1" /100 groups. I also have 7600 rem pump it shoots decent but not bolt accuracy...plenty good enough for most hunting applications. Others to consider with LH versions are Ruger, Winchester mod 70, Savage and if the money is no option Weatherby do offer a number LH models. Browning offer the abolt hunter, abolt medallion, abolt micro and abolt SS Stalker in LH bolts.(some of these are only available in the WSM offering...just check there website www.browning.com)

RE: Tikka Accuracy
James, I just ordered a Tikka WH in .270 that should be in sometime next week. Can' t wait to get my hands on it. I got the Stainless/Laminate version. It' s got the stainless action and barrel, with a gray/black laminated wood stock. It has all the features of the other models plus it' s impervious to bad weather.

RE: Tikka Accuracy
Thanks for the info. I have had several 700 Rem LH bolts and had good luck with them. Right now however in our Area the Tikka is at least 100 dollars cheaper than the Remington. I will look at Savage again as I have had some good ones in LH as well. The Tikka felt really good to me when I looked at it at the Scheels store in Bismark the other day. I had at one time a 270 Remington pump and a 30-06 pump carbine. Both guns shot well but at the time I was running a gun shop and my wife reminded me that we are supposed to be selling guns. Since these were guns I took in on trade I gave in and sold them. I had one 300 Weatherby LH bolt but the trigger on that one was bad and I got an offer to good to pass on and sold that one too. I shoot LH because I lost my right eye in an construction accident. I am not really left handed so although they work fair, I am not real handy with the lefty' s. I picked up an old Remington LH 22 bolt action to practice with. Maybe I will get the hang of it. I have been swithing back and forth between Right and Left hand rifles for 25 years. One would think I would be settled in by now. Thanks again.

RE: Tikka Accuracy
I can' t help you with the LH part, but I' d much rather have the Tikka to the Remington or Savage. I' ve owned or do own multiple examples of all three, and the Tikka in my opinion is a better made rifle.

James B.
I own two Tikka' s. One in a 7mm mag and the other is a 25/06. Both of them are Whitetails. Also, I just recently purchased a Wincherster Model 70 in the .300 WSM. I have fired many rounds through all three of them and the 25/06 and 7mm mag has shown more accuracy and consistancy than the Model 70. At times I have managed a 3 shot clover leaf group with the 25/06 (my handloads) and a consistant .5 moa with the 7mm mag (my handloads), all shot at 100 yrds. The best I have managed with the .300 WSM is .80 moa. Not bad considering it was with factory ammo. Allbeit Winchester ammunition, it is still fairly good. I would have to recommend the Tikka rifles not just for accuracy purposes but also because of how smooth the action is and how easy it is to make adjustments to the trigger pull. The Model 70' s action felt like an unfolding lawn chair everytime I work it and you have to have an engineering degree to adjust the trigger. I guess I am just spoiled on the Tikka' s |
RE: Tikka Accuracy
The last .270 Remington pump gun I saw was an extremely accurate gun...at least as accurate as any bolt action.

RE: Tikka Accuracy
I am convinced that the Tikka is the way to go if I go with the LH bolt rifle. I sure liked the look and feel of the one I looked at in the Scheels store. I know the Remington pumps well As I had two in the past. Many people won,t believe the accuracy of the Remington pump. The one I had in 270 was the most accurate rifle I ever saw. I fired a three shot group with 130 grain Nosler Ballistic tip of 3/4 inch at 200 yrds. I didn,t believe it so I put up a new target and did it again. It was a gun I had taken in on trade and the guy who traded it in wanted to buy it back for his Nephew so like a fool I sold it back to him.:( Thanks all again for your reponse. Good hunting.
