Question What's the best gun for me?

Hey I'm looking at buying a new gun. I told my buddy my pockets weren't that deep and I wanted the power and reliability of a shotgun and the range of a rifle. My buddy recommend a rifled slug gun or something to shoot sabot rounds. The only thing is I don't know what kind of shotgun to get . Will any rifled one work? If so can you throw out a few ideas of a cheaper reliable gun.( Right now single shot its out of the question)

You can throw slugs through a smooth bore as long as your choke is big enough, I think IC or Cylinder are fine. I recommend going to a pawn shop if you really want to get cheap.

Grab a couple of boxes of different slugs and see which perform best.

However, this combo will not have the effective range of a rifle by a long shot. Not sure "power and reliabilty" are any less in a rifle either, but if that's your take, so be it.

Are you in a slug only deer state? If so get a savage 220.

Do you have 0 guns?

If I was in a state that allowed rifle deer hunting, I would buy a rifle.

I have a few handguns but I am looking for something that can be used in multiple situations for a decent price.

That's going to depend on your ability and the shotgun/sabot combo in question.

Just too many variables.

What would you consider "pretty far" and "good grouping?"

Way too little info to give you a good recommendation???

Is there someone in your life that can mentor you???

What are the uses you want with this gun??? Many of us learned
to hunt with a .22 and moved up from there...

A 20 gauge makes a good beginners gun as well..

Im looking for something universal. Hunting, self defense. I want enough range to hit something up to 100 yards. With more power than a 22lr. I should.be able to get that out a rifled slug.
