Sheridan and Topgun, thanks. I'm going to drive South and see if it is still in the shop and try to make a deal. |
It's mine!!!!!
I got there after shoving the Nagant revolver and a couple of other milsurp guns in my trunk for trade-in possibilities and drove through a driving rain to the town south of here. The gun was indeed a security six, 6 inch barrel with the original box. Slight blemishes on the outside finish here and there but really, really nice overall. The bore was like a mirror. It looks absolutely mint. The grips have no dings or scratches and are a nice walnut. Timing, lockup, etc. are great. The story on the gun is that some guy bought it new in 1977, shot a few rounds through it, and then put it in his closet for 35 years. My heart sank when the owner said he really didn't deal with milsurps unless you get into high dollar ones like Garands, Springfields, etc. I couldn't pay in full cash. I was starting to drive back home when I remembered another pawn shop in town that had said they might be interested in guns like mine. They offered just enough for the Nagant revolver to let me buy the Ruger and still have $1.50 after taxes. From my reading, I think at absolute worst I got a fair price, maybe even a really good one. I drove home grinning like a cheshire cat! Pics are in order, but I'm heading out for vacation, so I'll try to do it when I get back. Thanks again! |
Congratulations - you made a great purchase !
I put these Hogue grips on mine................like shooting it that much more now !!! http://www.midwayusa.com/Product/233...x-rubber-black |
You are better off for what you really wanted. A fair price and a great revolver. You will never regret this trade/purchase.
Don't look back for a second but get active on obtaining ammo and shoot the hell out of the gun. I'll wager you can't hurt it much no matter how much you shoot it. Treat it nice with frequent cleanings and inspections and it'll serve you faithfully. Pistol smith's love working on Rugers, as they are built solidly and can be tweaked for personal preference. Welcome to the club of satisfied and committed Ruger fans. |

Welcome to the club of satisfied and committed Ruger fans. I'll need to get some ammo. It might be time to learn reloading. I have a friend who is a Ruger man--owns a number of them and he was very positive on the gun and the price after I showed it to him. |

Sorry amigo, I couldn't resist. Mama and I are a bit sleep deprived after the first 10days with Lil'Mercy home, so my sense of humor is skewed... |
Congratulations to you , mom & Lil'Mercy !!!
The greatest joy in life, so I'm told.................. Brought that back in the day, when I was commuting in & out of NYC. |
