Default Moron at the range today

Some dufus was there with a brand new 338 Lapua Savage. Had ZERO math ability, and I got a headache explaining him how to sight in with only three shoots by first starting at 25. He went through a boatload of $6/round ammo and still had no idea where the rounds were going by the time I left. (He was still blasting away at 25 yds at a TWO-FOOT sheet of paper!)

Oh, and he was super anal about breaking it in by cleaning after every shot, but of course he was using a three-piece cheapo cleaning rod from the MUZZLE!

Oh, oh, his nifty shooting iron was sporting a $70 scope!!! (Perhaps that had something to do with his lack of ability to sight in?)

Oh, oh, oh, he told me he was going to set the scope for a THOUSAND yard zero because “this is a flat-shooting round.”
You CANNOT make this stuff up!!

I wonder how long it will be until he sends it back to the factory because it does not shoot straight?

That's the kind that need to have their guns taken away permanently and told to take up knitting!

I love those types. I have owned about 4 300 ultras because some guy swore it wouldn't shoot. Got em real cheap at the range.

Well if u see him again and he wants to sell it let me know
Sometimes i dont get it. I started hunting i had shot a 9mm glock 22s and a few over under shotguns. I had never shot a high power rifle never any gun at a range. And i knew better then that. The 3030 i got when i was 18 had the scope so far off it to an hr to sight in but i did it with two boxes. When i got my muzzleloader i had it dead on at 100 yards in 9 shots. I guess if hes got ammo money

What would make a person shoot a weapon like that and have substandard optics. I wonder if the scope he has on it will put up with the recoil.

My 3030 had a cheapo scobe on it every 5-10 rounds it would move. I think the scopes as or maybe more important then a good gun. I spent 450 bucks on my triumph 300+ on the scobe and rail. When i buy my rem 700 im plannin 300-500 for the scope

I love range moron stories. The sad part is that these same boneheads will be heading for the woods armed with poorly sighted in rifles and poor shooting skills....... not to mention a complete lack of common sense and judgment.

I think we all have our "range moron" stories. Too bad we don't have a separate category here for them. Some of us could be amused. Some of us might recognize ourselves.

You can always hope that guys like this show up at this fall's turkey shoot. But, the trouble is that they're often also the ones in the woods shooting deer and elk in the pooper from 1200 yards.
