788

I traded and acquired a rem 788 in .243 have wanted a 788 for along time just one of the older guns I want in my collection I hear there accuracy isn't bad for a 18.5 inch barrel but yet to shoot it hopefully this weekend, be a cheaper and little break from the big magnums I love so much to shoot ,hope my sendero rile doesn't get jealous

I never owned one, but they always had a solid reputation as an accurate rifle, which is surprising for a mid-lug action. They usually fetch a good price if you can find one.

yeah I was surprised how much these old guns were going for luckily a buddy had it and knew I had been wanting one for a long time its not the caliber of my choice I wanted something smaller but it will work. I keep hearing how accurate they are hope to get to shoot it soon

My daughter uses a Mod. 788 in 243 Win. I worked up a hand load for it using the 100 gr. Partition bullet. It is very accurate and has been reliable for decades.

Wow !!!! The 788 did awsome !!! Very suprised with accuracy still had a ancient fixed 4 power on it first went to 25 yards to make sure on paper, shot 5 shots 4 made one hole and 5th shot was 3/4 of inch maybe to the left of 4 shot cluster

I wouldn't be too concerned with short barreled rifles being less accurate... often times they are equally (or even more) accurate that longer barreled versions. There will certainly be some velocity loss, but certainly still doable.

Really want to see what's the old gun will do at further range with a scope thats not so old an foggy

If you read up on the gun, you'll find a lot of people saying that Remington discontinued the 788 because its accuracy was drawing customers who would have purchased their more expensive lines otherwise. The rifle was, in effect, too accurate for its own good.

im very impressed with the rifle and I have been enjoying shooting it cant wait for the kids to grow into it

My dad gave me one in .22-250 when I came back from Vietnam. We shot a lot (hundreds) of groundhogs with it. A little on the ugly side but a GREAT shooting rifle.
