Is the .308 good for Hogs & Elk?

Was thinking about getting a .308. Would it be a good choice for hogs and elk? Or would a 30-06 be a better choice?

Since there are no elk where I hunt I don't know First hand but as for the hogs I know the .308 will reck them here in Florida. I shoot 168 grain of whatever my rifle likes that I want to use and it has always worked.

The .308 is very similar in ballistics to the 30-06 and would be fine for both hogs and elk along with deer.

.308win is plenty for either.

If your honestly find any way to actually tell the difference in the field between the .308 and the .30-06, you'll win a Nobel peace prize for solving one of life's great debates.

Great for moose too. Don't beat you up, extremely accurate. You're covered for everything from gophers and up.

Either or , pick one and don't look back. Shot placement is key

A .30-06 does a better job with the heavier bullets.

Yep!

When I was in basic training in the Army our standard rifle was the M-14. We had a drill sargeant tell us that the .308 cartridge was more powerful than a .30-06. At least I was smart enough back then not to tell him that he was full of sh**.

Many years later I sat in on my son's hunter safety course, and one of the instructors told the kids that the .308 was a larger caliber than a .30-06 because "08" is larger than "06". After the class I explained the real difference between those two cartridges to that instructorl

.308 is one of the most accurate and versatile calibers out there...I have hunted deer, elk, moose, black bear and pronghorn with it in several different states over the years. It will pretty much kill anything in North America with the proper bullet and shot placement. I have several 308's and love them all.

Havent found a hog, mule deer, black bear or coyote that has been able to tell me the difference yet!!!!!
