I am planning to buy either a new 270Win Winchester Model 70 or Tikka T3 Lite rifle.

I am interested in your comments and experiences, including recoil considerations as the the the Tikka T3 is 6 pounds 3 ounces and the Model 70 Featherweight or Sport are about & pounds. Man thanks.

I meant to say, the what is the difference in recoil, given the Winchester Model 70 Featherweight or Sporter are about 7 pounds compared to the Tikka T3 Lite at 6 pounds 3 ounces? Many thanks.

I've had (and later sold), three Tikkas. One was a real shooter, one was "only" above average and one was problematic. I favor Win 70 Featherweights but, in all honesty, either would likely be fine. Recoil-wise, neither should be bothersome in a .270.

I have a Tikka T3 Lite Stainless in 270 WSM and have been hunting with it for about 5 years now...recoil is mild and felt recoil seems less than the recoil of my Remington 700 BDL in 270win, so I doubt you'd see much difference in recoil between the two rifles.

My Tikka is very accurate and has shot everything I have put in it well. The rifle shoots and handles nicely, the bolt is butter smooth, trigger is very crisp and breaks like glass and is easily adjustable. The ONLY complaint I have with the rifle is the detachable magazine feels cheap but it has worked flawlessly with 150 or so rounds through it to date.

For the money, I find Tikka a hard rifle to beat. I have a safe full of rifles old and new...Browning, Winchester, Remington, Sako, Tikka, Savage and so on and my Tikka is equal to or better than most of them.

I do not have a new model 70 but from what I have heard and seen from a few friends you'd be hard pressed to talk me into buying one...I have heard to many complaints about accuracy and quality of them lately.

I can't confirm the previous post about Winchester's model 70 issues. But IMO the featherweight is a beautiful looking classic bolt action. I've never owned one but only because I am a southpaw and until recently they were not available to us. I do however own a Tikka T3 lite and it is a great rifle. Beats my Rems, Brownings an Savages hands down. A joy to carry, a slick as snot bolt, and accurate. Mine is a 30-06 and with heavy 180 gr handloads the recoil is noticeable. I don't believe the .270 should be too bad though.
Also why don't you put on your list the Browning X bolt? Another fine rifle.

If that was my choice it would be a new Model 70. I own one and really like the rifle. It is solid, accurate, and comes with a very good recoil pad already installed. The new M70 trigger is a winner.

There are absolutely no problems with accuracy or quality.

My rifle is chambered in .375 H&H, and it is one of the softest shooting .375's that I have ever shot.

Got a new Winchester Model 70 Extreme Weather(stainless/synthetic) chambered in 270 Winchester. I have found it to be at least as accurate as the T3 Lite in 25-06 I had. To me, the Model 70 has a better fit and feel to it. The trigger on the the Tikka is a tad better(IMO) but the "MOA" trigger on the Model 70 is very good. The stock on the Extreme Weather is much better than the T3 Lite stock and the Extreme Weather uses a Pachmyr Decelerator recoil pad.

I have not had any issues with my Model 70 and think its quality is excellent. I have not read or heard of many problems with the new FN made Winchester M70's.

I also have one of the new win m70 and have no complaints on it. Its very accurate and seems to be well made. I very fine rifle indeed

Thank goodness those 270s are mules.
