Default Whats with the .22lr shortage...

I live near St. Louis. Have been to Cabelas, Bass pro, and all the local farm supply stores, and everyone has been cleaned out of .22lr for over a month with no restock in the near future. Even sunk as low as going to two Wal-marts. All these stores have at least some ammo in other calibers, even .223, but no .22. I realize it is probably the most popular round but man whats the deal? Well at least I can still get everything else I want.

Even though I knew our local Walmart was out of .223, .308's and .22's, I went back to see what they did have---now all the .270, .300 mag, .243 and many of the other calibers are gone also, nothing left but a few boxes of shotgun shells and two boxes of 06---95% of the ammo case was empty---the guy at the counter says they came in and bought whatever he had, then said they will go buy a gun in that caliber---the Gander Mountain had a lot on the shelves last weekend, but no .223, .308 or .22's----

to answer your question, I'm sure the .22's are gone due to many of the AR platforms are chambered in .22 long rifle---at this point it seems that the lowly .22lr is an asault weapon round. The guys at Academy Sports said that all the .308, .223 and .22 ammo went right out the door with all the "black rifles"----
Here's a shot or two of the new 550 CZ American in .308---

Just kept going right by the American versions of the CZ's due to I'm a firm believer in a cheekpiece and I had no idea they had one [ in the photos at Bud's guns all you see is the right side ], but saw this one, new, with a cheekpiece, and snapped it up--been wanting a .308 for awhile, then got it home and lo and behold, it also has the CZ set trigger so I'm a happy man---we have moved to Louisiana so this will be a good hog gun---if I can find anywhere to buy ammo----bummer---

Around me, its the same thing. And when ammo is in stock, they want WAY too much money for it. It will settle down soon (hopefully).

I'm a little tired of it... I do a lot of rabbit/squirrel hunting this time of year and I had to drive all over town to find .22lr. And what did I do? I cleaned off the shelf.

I blame the general public for freaking out and buying all the ammo they can get their hands on. Doesn't leave much for those of us that actually use it.
