Default Winchester Model 70 STUCK in the stock

Hi,

I have a late-model winchester model 70 featherweight that has developed a goofy trigger problem. It creeps real bad about 1/2 way through the trigger pull. The MOA trigger it has is self-adjustable, but when I pull the action screws, the trigger guard and magazine out- the stock is absolutely STUCK in the stock What gives?

So, will it have to be re-bedded after I put the stock back in? Thanks for the help!

Shouldn't need to be re-bedded unless you damage the bedding by tapping it out. Shouldn't be an issue. Sounds like someone either forgot the release agent, didn't use enough, or didn't let the resin cure properly before they removed, cleaned, and reinstalled the action.

Wow, this is pretty cool being able to see this first hand. The notch in the stock where the recoil lug sits has the bedding compound nicely coated all around it- same with the rear action screw. I'm assuming this is to combat the effects of expansion/contraction of wood on the action?

you mean by applying the same amount of tension to both action screws?

60 in/lbs
I'm gonna have to get a torque wrench to ensure I have exactly that much tension on there. I need to make a trip to the hardware store, anyway.

Remember.. He said in/lbs, NOT ft/lbs.. Watch what kind of torque wrench you buy!!

The manual also says INCH/lbs. I got an inch/lbs torque wrench.
