recoil reducer
I have a Vanguard rifle in 300 weatherby mag. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to reduce recoil. It has a synthetic stock. Could I put lead shot or a recoil reducer in the stock? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks M_S

RE: recoil reducer
Best thing I have found is a sims recoil pad it is cheaper than having a muzzle brake added.

RE: recoil reducer
You can get a mercury recoil suppressor put in the stock.
Spreads out the recoil so it is not such a jolt. Greatly reduces felt recoil. Much better than a muzzle break. I took mine off my 300 win mag and have never put it back on. It is not worth the abuse your ears take even with hearing protection. The mercury suppressor does the job. My 300 win feels about like a 30-06, it is also a 7 1/2 pound rifle with a good recoil pad. |
RE: recoil reducer
If all else fails have a muzzle brake installed, one should never discharge a fire arm with out ear protection if at all possible. In the field while hunting one can use a Walkers Game Ear. In the situation of self defence ear protection may not be possible. Good luck.

Ive heard alot of praise for the simbs, they make pre-fit recoil pads same price as the pachmayrs, id give one a try.

RE: recoil reducer
I put a Sims recoil pad, and a mercury recoil suppressor in the stalk of my 7mm Ultra Mag. At the range I made some comparison with a 30-06 and .270, and the Ultra Mag' s recoil felt somewhere between the 06 and .270. I feel they are great products to look into. When I hit the woods this fall, I plan to remove the mercury recoil suppressor to keep the gun as light as possible. During a hunting situation, recoil is usually not an issue. Hope this helps.....

Anyone know a good sight or brand for the mercury recoil suppressors, havent read up on them much.

RE: recoil reducer
Treedog, Here is a C & H Research' s site. I use them in my target shotguns, never considered them for rifles. They do reduce some felt recoil but IMHO nothing beats a good muzzle brake.
