Default Whitetail deer gun

Have a Remington 20 gauge looking to go up to a 12 kind of wanting a Remington but a mossberg will do. My price range is $375 and below. Anyone know what the best gun is?

i don't see much of an advantage going from a 20 gauge to 12 gauge for a deer gun. All it will do is be more unpleasant to shoot. If your in a state that allows a centerfire rifle for hunting why not get one? remington owns marlin and i think manufactures them now. You should look into a marlin xl7 or xs7. Mossberg also makes a gun in that price range called the 100 atr. If you really want a 12 gauge you could look at a mossberg 500 or a mossberg 835. I'm guessing the remington you own is a 870.

Where I live it is only legal to hunt deer with a shotgun. I have a .270 and would love to use it but unfortunately it is illegal. So any idea what a good 12 gauge shotgun is?

H&R USH 12ga is a great shooting gun and is in your price range.

I switched this year from an 870 12 gauge to a Savage 220 (20 gauge) -- a 20's plenty for whitetails, in my opinion.

Here's another option. Most states that are shotgun only will allow muzzleloading rifles. It limits you to one shot, but generally more accurate than a shotgun. For a slug gun it's hard to beat either the H&R ultra slug hunter or the Savage 212/220. I've got an old Marlin model 55 bolt action that I turned into a slug gun. Even with old school foster slugs I can shoot a 3"-4" group at 100 yards. The H&R and the Savage are a cut above the rest when it comes to slug guns. Also Check out http://www.shotgunworld.com/ , the guys on that sight are quite knowledgeable about slug guns.

Save your money and buy the Savage F220, if in fact you want a slug gun.
