Default Kid Gun

My son is 6 years old and I want to get him into hunting. I also want to teach him the dos and dont's of firearm safety. What is a good beginner caliber and gun? I have been looking at the Remington International Model 5 .22 and the CZ .22.....any recommendations...?

definatly .22 LR , no recoil or big BANG to deal with, plus very cheap ammo, start him off right, and God bless.

Each child is different. My son's first gun was a Rossi .22/.410 at 5 years old. He killed his first deer with a Ruger M77 MarkII Compact in .243. He was 8 years old.

I'd look at an air rifle or a 22.

My daughter got a pink Cricket .22 single shot for her 9th birthday this summer. She's really tiny and can't really handle (or pump) a full size bb gun, but the cricket is a good size for her. It has a spring loaded striker that has to be cocked before each shot. If I could I would have gotten it for her sooner. Her sister is 4 and I guarantee she'll shoot it well before she reaches 9.

Every boy should have a Marlin 60! Granted, a semi-auto brings it's own cautions for a young kid, but it'll only fire as many shots as you load in it.

Personally, between your two, I'd put the CZ 452 or 455 ahead of the Remington 5. The 452 Scout is the youth model, which to my knowledge would accept a full length pull stock (or simply add a recoil pad) when he gets older/taller.
