Savage 220
Any recommendations for a scope for this slug gun. I would like to get a Nikon slughunter since they are on sale, but am not limited to this particular type or model.

I have that Savage 220F on my wish list.
My wish list includes topping it with a Ziess Conquest 3X-9X.

Same here, but I do wish I had the extra money for a Ziess.

the VX-3 doesn't come in 3-9, you might be thinking of the VX-2

I prefer straight 4X scopes for that purpose.

I have a Slug Hunter on my 220 and it has been just dandy over the last five years. Both my Daughter and Godson have used it to kill their first bucks so it is easy to use with great eye relief. But the Leupold Ultimate Slam is equally as good or maybe even a little better. Have one of those coming for a 220 I got my Godson for his birthday that is coming up in October.

Recommend the Sightron Big Sky SII 3x9x42 with DNZ tactical mount

I would recommend the following set up::s4:
Savage 220F Stainless Steel barrel with camo stock
Sightron Big Sky SII 3x9x42 HHR
DNZ 18200T tactical mount (it has 4 bolts per cap, and looks nice)
Savage leather sling (just because I'm old school on Cobra leather slings)
Scopeshield scope cover. Rain and snow should not get out of the woods. Being able to see when it gets nasty.. priceless.
Sightron SII Big Sky series is offering $100 rebate on the scope, it gets very good reviews, especially for the optics at low light. The hunter hold over reticle is similar to the Nikon, but you will have to do your own ballistic drop calculations. So far the Acutips are at zero at about 150, and drop at 200 should be near the first line on the hold over.
The DNZ tactical mount from the top of receiver to the centerline of the scope tube is 1.045, which is perfect for the 42mm OD., making it tight to the barrel and enough room for the bolt action, and plenty of room for the shells to eject.
The Savage 220 Stainless Steel's bolt action is very smooth, and shell ejection is not an issue.
