.270win winchester ppp vs rem Scirocco
I was checking out the local wally world a few weeks back when something caught my eye. They had Winchester Supreme Power Point Plus in .270 for 6 bucks a box! I cleaned out their supply (6 boxes) and also picked up 2 boxes of Remington Scirocco in .270 for 14 bucks a box (which is pretty good deal in itself)
Now here is the question. The winchester ammo fires out at 3150fps, while the remington at 3060fps. Most of my shots will be at a relatively close range, (< 150 yards), most likely 50yards or less however (hunint white tail). Is the scirocco just going to fly through these guys at this range? Are they even going to hold together? Is the winchester going to be more effective at these short ranges?
What do you guys think?

Don' t pay too much attention to published velocity figures. Most are done under controlled conditions with pressure barrels, most of which are longer than normal hunting rifles. You can figure anywhere from 50 to 100 fps loss from what the manufacturers boast about.
The Scirocco may be just a bit explosive at close range. That polymer tip is gonna get shoved back and force the bullet to expand. At close range, 50 yards or less, I fear the force would cause too much expansion and cause the bullet to come apart. To 100 yards or further, they should be fine.
The most important factor is, how do they shoot in your rifle? Go with the round that shoots best.

Here' s my results shooting a Scirocco through a 2 1/2 old Mule deer last fall.

I wouldn' t recommend them for deer myself. Too much bullet I think. Better performance from a balistic tip or standard bullet type

Welcome to the forum Generic, You should be fine with either as long as your rifle likes them.Same make and models will shoot differently with the same cartridges.Shoot them both and make sure your rifle will accurately shoot them.In my Ruger M-77 7mm RM.It didn' t like the Federal Ballistic tips. That same rifle seems to like the Rem Core Lokts. It' s trial and error.

The scirroccos are a bonded bullet and will not come apart at any distance especially out of a 270win.The only complaints with them is that they don' t shoot accurately in many rifles and they tend to leave more copper fouling.
