I prefer the Browning, however, I would replace the factory spring in the trigger to a lighter one.
Not very hard to do.

Don't pass up looking up the Mossberg ATR100.

It's inexpensive, and a good bang for your buck (pun intended). Mine does .9-1.25" with a variety of loads, both factory & handloads.

I really like my new Stainless Weatherby Vanguard S2 in 270 Winchester.
Shoots less than 1 in groups with 140gr Sierra Gamekings or Accubonds.
Trigger pull is 3lbs 2oz from factory. Holds 6 shells. Has 3 position saftey.

I just placed an order for a Savage Model 11 in 7-08. Best price I found was at Bud's. Also Adorama had a good deal on Vortex Viper 3x9 scopes.

Bud's gun shop has Browning A-bolt composite stalkers for 503$ Now nobody can use the excuse that they're higher compared to other rifles LOL! My vote is A-bolt or X-bolt.

I'd probably lean towards the browning...

I like short bolt throws... ie... weatherby, sako, browning, etc...

lots of options out there though...

check'em out, maybe let him pick? take a picture and write .270?? on it,

might be more fun having him shop around with you...
