Browning A-Bolt 7mm08
What factory loads have give the best accuracy for this gun?
|
I have a A-bolt II Micro and an X-bolt in 7mm-08 and neither of them shoot any factory load worth a hoot. I have had Brownings in .308, 30-06 and .243 and they all shot factory Remington ammo well and several other brands of ammo shot very well. I don't know what's up with the 7-08 caliber in Browning yet but having 2 of the same model and caliber displaying the same traits kinda makes me wonder. Both the 7-08 have been terrible so far but neither has 100 rounds through them and both are showing signs of improving but 4-5 inch 100 yard groups are horrible. The Fereral Fusion 120 grain is the best so far and I intend to try some 140 grain of the same soon.
I have been swabbing every 10 shots and it's helping. I had a .308 that started out a 2-3" rifle that eventually shot everything I fed it under an inch. |

Something is drastically wrong if you're shooting 4-5 inch groups with ANYTHING!

Frankly I have experineced only 1 rifle for wich I failed to find a good grouping round ... a Winchester Model 70 "Classic" in 300 WSM. I got it to about 2.5 MOA and gave up. I'd be interested in what you have tried.
As for as saying which will (or will not) group well. Not practical. Each rifle is such a "thing" unto itself. It will let you know which particular load that it likes. Just keep trying. My limited experience with the 7mm/08 has been bullets in the 130 gr. weight pushed at medium-hot velicities grouped pretty good. The rifle was a Browning A-Bolt. I never was able to get a 150 gr. to group all that well, depsite working up several hand loads and trying 4 different bullets. |

Anyone got any ideas on the original topic about factory loads?
