Sako Question ?

What is a Pre-Garcia Sako ? How old or when were these made ?It is a 6PPC and how many rounds, before a PPC barrel is going bad ? What would it be worth,to buy ?[:o]

RE: Sako Question ?

I can only reply to part of your question........about barrel life.

The 6PPC is mostly a target round.....however it' s certainly been used for varmints and other things as well.

There are people that consider a barrel burned out when the best it can do is 1/2" groups. That' s certainly not me!!!! The barrel life therefore is a matter of what one' s standard is.

Having said that I' ll now say that the PPC is good for well beyond 5,000 rounds if cleaned properly and not fired hot.

RE: Sako Question ?

Garcia was an importer of Sako rifles. Pre-Garcia is usually a description used by collectors pertaining to rifles brought into the USA before the involvement of Garcia. Many collectors believe Pre-Garcia Sakos are more valuable. Good luck.

RE: Sako Question ?

Following up on what handloader said, the used value on Sakos vary depending upon the time frame they were imported in. During the Garcia years, some manufacturing steps were modified to keep costs down.

Barrel life is highly subjective. A benchrest shooter may tell you some calibers only have a barrel life of 1,000 to 1,500 rounds before they aren' t competitive anymore. I' ve had 22-250' s that I felt were " shot-out" for what I consider acceptable varmint accuracy at 2,000 rounds or less.
