How 'bout a .338?
*** Talk about going to extremes when asking about a .243 and now a caliber for big bears, LOL! |

Mostly Whitetail bucks during the fall, winter and early spring. The more I look at the Remington 700, the more i want it. A nice hefty .308 with a 3-9x40 to back it up along with the fact it's Realtree Ap!

.338 if you want to blow it in half. Are you trolling or just don't know much about guns? look at 30-30, 30-06,.270 , .308 , 25-06 .243 etc...

243 = 270 = 308 all great WT cal. My dad loved a 243 I like a 270 just bought a CVA APEX in 270 and Lovein it.

I have been the proud owner of a Remington 700 in. 270 for about 10 years. The furthest I've had one run is about 20 yards. I would highly reccomend it.

I love the .243 and the .270 for whitetail. The .270 will let you jump up in the elk category. All the rounds you brought up are great deer medicine. Remington 700 is can't miss. |
I once read in another post on this site something about the .270 To the best of my recollection, it went like this..
"There's a reason you don't see too many used .270s. Them that has'em keeps'em." |
I would say if you want it get it. The .270 is a fantastic cartridge. I too have used the .243 and the .270 a lot on deer and have no complaints with either. But if I had to choose I would get the .270 (even over the .308). I've taken too many deer with the .270 from spitting distance to over 400 yds (something I wouldn't try with the .243). I've also taken several deer with the .308 and although the deer ended up in the back of my truck when shot with the .308, they always seemed to run a distance. With the .270 and the .243 they were DRT.

You Can't go wrong with a Remington 700 in a .270 , it was my first rifle with a Leupold
3x9x40 . Yes the .270 will do a much better job than your .243 , not even close . |
