shotgun for hiking and camping?
 

well things have a way of changing, and in my case they change alot. i love to hike and camp on privat property near my home here in kentucky. i thought i would have a handgun to take with me, i had bought a stoeger cougar 9mm. but some things came up i had to sell the gun, now it will be next year before i will have a chance to have enough for another handgun. i do however have h&r pardner pump protector with 18.5 inch barrel, it weighs however 7lbs. would the shotgun be a good choice fo hiking and camping? at one time i thought i might have to use it for this purpose but i was able to get the handgun now i'm back to the shotgun. what do ya'll think about carrying a shotgun for camping and hiking? thanks

i dont see why not other than just the weight and also the fact that when you run across people it might throw them off a bit youre carrying a long gun (nice thing about the pistol is at least you can have it concealed).

If you are expecting to run into some nasty critters in the woods, that would be a very good choice. Shotguns are so versatile. You can change their effectiveness and lethal abilities simply by changing to different ammunition. They also make an excellent (one of the best actually) home defense weapons there is, in my opinion.

When my sister lived in Alaska it was very common to take shotguns when hiking, fishing, etc. Simply because of the bear population where they lived. I am not sure what you might encounter where you live, but I have heard and saw some TV programs about the growing hog concerns. So in this case a shotgun would be an excellent weapon if you had to face them.

ive got an old continental arms 410 single i carry alot.its light and shoots good and easy to shoot.a shotgun will work just great.
