my brother came by this morning and told me not to buy any full metal jacket ammo, he said it will wear the gun barrel out in less than a thousand rounds. is this true?, i use federal 115 grain fmj to target shoot and hollow points for defense. thanks

Your brother doesn't know what he's talking about.
A FMJ bullet is no different than any other jacketed bullet, such as your hollow points, except that the FMJ bullet has a solid tip and exposed lead base instead of an exposed tip and solid base. Basically a FMJ is made backwards from the way a hunting or target bullet is made.
