Painting a synthetic stock????
I own a savage .17 hmr. It has a black stock on it. I was thinking of repainting the stock. What kind of paint should I use? I would like something to hold up well. Has anyone ever done this before? Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I've not done any synthetic stocks yet but I have painted a lot of automobiles & lately they have more plastic on them. The main thing with top coating plastics is adhesion. The compounds have oils & silicone type chemicals in them because they are flexible it is harder to get good adhesion. Go to an auto body supply shop or parts store that carries paint & tell them what you're doing & get some adhesion promoter &/or plastic primer & follow label info for applying & you should be able to get the durability you want.

I used the HS camo spray kit years back on my SE600 Oneida bow.It held up well enough plus they have a remover spray for it if you want to make a change.Just remember if you're not happy with the results of the tougher paints you've got a royal PITA job on your hands.

There are also companies that will dip the stocks to different patterns. I have seen some of them and they are very nice. But I would guess... expensive.
