savage

i have been seeing all the adds on how accurate they are and relatively inexpensive. are there certain models to look for or for that matter to look out for? looking for a 338 if that makes a difference.

For the most part, savages are all the same rifle, a model 110. The stock, finish, magazine and packaged extras (ie scope, sling) are the main differences in the hunting rifles.
Choosing the 338 limits your model choices. I think you may be stuck with the 116 weather warrior. It is stainless/black and will cost more than the 110/111s.

".............stuck with the 116 weather warrior." Big Z

Stuck ??

Proud owner of a Weather Warrior and might just be the most accurate rifle I own.

Accutrigger & Accustock, stainless barrel plus they don't call it "Weather Warrior" for nothin !!!

Could not be more happy with it......................

Savage rifles are notorious for being the most accurate right out of the box regardless of caliber. This trend has been around for as long as I can recall and I've been at it since 1980.

Just curious . . . what's the .338 gonna be used for?
You can buy a brand new 116 Trophy Hunter in .338 with a Nikon 3-9 scope for about $590.00!!
So, go down from there.
Burris is made in Greeley, CO I believe. Has had a good reputation. Up there with Leupolds and Nikons, etc.
As far as accuracy . . . I'll buy nothing else! I even Bought their cheapest model "Axis" in 25-06 just to play with and it is driving tacks at 100 yards. Beautiful thing about Savage . . . you can interchange barrels very easily! .338 today . . . 30-06 tomorrow!
