Help Identifying my Mauser please . . .

2 Attachment(s)
I've tried attaching 2 photos of the gun. The only numbers I can find are "1940" on one side of action, and "1421" on the other. It has been converted to 25-06. So I guess the action is the only thing that is Mauser. I was told by the guy I got it from that the action is a Mauser 98.
Any and all info would be helpful as I am thinking about selling it.

It's a Columbian Mauser, beyond that I can't help with the pic's you have. I couldn't make out everything but did see the columbia on the crest

If you click on the thumbnails they get big enough to read.
The first one has stamped in it "FAB. NAT. D'ARMES de GUERRE ~ HERSTAL - BELGIQUE"
I've wondered is it made in Belgium for the Columbian Gov't, or made in Columbia?

I'll dig out my "Small Arms of the World" in the next couple days and see if I can't get you a little more info on your gun. But for the time being here are some links you might find intersting.

Thanks! Again, the action is the Mauser 98 only. Everything else is aftermarket.

You have a very fine action....made by FN of Belgium for contract to Columbia.....and it hasn't been scalloped when rebarreled to .30-06 as so many Columbians were...

It's a fine M-98 Mauser to be coveted.

What about 25-06 and "scalloping"?

The dish shaped cut to the receiver ring ( I referred to as scalloped) was to facilitate top feeding from stripper clips....it's not necessary for hand feeding rounds to the magazine.....and that action will hold the .25-06 with little to no alteration.....go for it but don't scallop it as there's no real reason.
