Shotgun info

Hi,
I just recently got my gun license and I bought a browning xbolt stainless stalker in 300wsm and a Sks russian 7.62x39 and I'm looking to add a shotgun to my growing collection. The problem is I dont know the first thing about shotguns I've shot some 12 guages befor but thats it.

I want a pump or autoloader for sure and i want 12 guage. Ive heard that the benellis and berattas make good recoil reducing autoloaders and I've heard that the mossberg 500 and remington 870 are the most reliable pumps. If the felt recoil is reduced that much by the benelli and beretta i would most likely go with the auto loader. I will probably be going goose hunting and deer hunting which barrel length typ of barrel chokes etc. should I go for? and i would like the option of changing the barrrel for a much shorter one for screwing around at the gravel pits or defense. preferbly something under 1000$

Any suggestions on model make for a reliable autoloader? Thanks in advance.

The Browning BPS is about as good as it gets.

Proud owner of a Beretta Extrema.

There are any number of good ones out there now-a-days !

Best way is to handle them !!!

From what I've been seeing the bps is alot closer to my price range.

I'd consider 2 guns. A pump like a 500 for defense, and an auto for geese. The 500 could also be a deer gun with a smooth bore barrel with rifle sights, or a rifled barrel and a scope. Accessorizing an auto for all of the uses you have in mind would probably get expensive.

That could work or I step up the pump and use a pump for deer and geese and just accesorise that

I would go with a pump. I have an 870 and a 500, I like them both equally. Functionally they are equal. I would give the edge on appearances to the 870. The 500 would get the edge in the home defense section though because they make a lot of options for the 500. You're already shooting the .300 wsm so the recoil is not an issue. So I would go with a package deal on either the 500 or 870. I would get the package because that will give you everything you need from home goose to deer.

The stoeger seems like a good deal how is that gun compared to the remington 11-87and the mossberg 935? And do they sell those in canada? Also what the difference between 3-1/2" and 3" can I still shoot the 2-3/4" sorry if that sounds dumb but like i said I haven't the slightes clue when it comews to shotguns.
