Need good rifle
My hubby & I are going to start deer hunting again after not hunting for 25 years. We have sold or given away our hunting rifles over the years...so we are starting fresh. He just purchased his rifle last week..a new Savage 111 .270 Cabelas exclusive with gray laminate stock...looks to be well made & looks nice.
I want a .243 because I loved the caliber 25 years ago & I took many whitetail deer here in Texas..I had a Ruger 77. I am looking for a step-up My criteria: Sako or CZ .243 cal nice wood stock bolt action back up iron sights if possible easy scope ring mounting & rings that don't break the bank Which Sako or CZ would "you" pick?? Price limit $ 2000 Thanks for your help |
Sako 85 Hunter Stainless

Welcome back...I must have what you had...
I bought a Ruger M-77 in 1980 in .243 caliber, still using it... Good luck on your decision... btw...I got a clean barrel, no sights...With today's great scopes I just don't think iron sights are needed... |
Iron sights are good too have, there way more dependable than ANY scope.

Here's an option for you. cZ Full stocked ala Mannlicher style. Nice wood, has iron sights AND integral mounts for optics. set yourself up with a quick removable scope system and you'll have it all. Available in .243 and 5 other great choices. $864.00 MSR without optics. If you know a good ffl you could snag it for less.

Of the two - Sako 85
|
The Sako 85 is really nice, but if you are looking for a Mauser action I would choose the Kimber 84M over the CZ.

Nothing wrong with either, but does that $2,000 include the scope, bases & rings ?
.............because for that kind of money there are "others" to consider. Between the two, I'll take the Sako ! |
Thanks for all the help. The CZ 550 FS looks nice. I have heard that CZ is lacking in Customer Service...any input here???
I fogot to mention that I would like A Controlled Feeding bolt action.. Yes... I would like to spend $ 2000 including scope & rings... but would increase by $ 500 for a True Controlled Feeding bolt Why did they ever stop producing the Real Mauser 98's ??? |
