Default Amish girl accidentally shot and killed by muzzleloader in Ohio!!!!!

Did anyone hear about this story? An Amish girl was apparently shot in the head by a muzzleloader that was fired 1.5 miles away when a man discharged it after hunting so he could clean it. Apparently he shot it up into the air and the bullet traveled 1.5 miles aways striking the 15 year old amish girl in the head while she was driving a buggy. I myself find this next to impossible to believe. What are your guys opinions?

Would it have been different if she was a Presbyterian?

That's exactly why I cringe ever time I see goofy people shooting guns up in the air to celebrate New Years and other various stuff! That projectile is going to come down somewhere and if it hits somebody in the head this is what will happen! 1 1/2 miles seems like a long way for a muzzleloader, but these new inlines are dang near like shooting a centerfire rifle nowadays.

A mile is over 5 thousand feet - 5,280 actually. It seems almost impossible even for an inline to shoot that far.

Well on the boxes of 22 shells it says that they will travel 2 miles and I remember in the Hunter Ed book it having a chart that showed a centerfire going well over 2 miles and a magnum going something close to 3 miles. So a muzzleloader going 1.5 miles is very plausible to me. I also remember reading an article about a 45-120 blackpowder cartridge sharps being able to shoot around 1.5 miles with the proper angle and I would bet that would be close to the velocity of a muzzleloader out of an inline.

It was shot up into the air 1.5 isn't unbelievable. Angle and wind, that's all.

But would it have enough energy when its coming back down to go thru a skull? I believe Mythbusters tested it and said no.

What go's up must come down..
Gravitational force has a velocity of 9.8m/sec..
So whatever goes down, always comes down with accelerating speed. It is pausible this actually happened to strike and kill this girl..
Drop a book on your hand a foot off the ground..
Drop the same book on your hand at 2ft 3ft 4ft etc..
It will hit with more force every single time..
Drop it from 100 ft on your hand, and it will be crushed if not amputated..
