Those are at least a few of the benefits as I see them at least of a .243win for deer over a .30-06 (coming from a dedicated .30-06 hunter).
I'd tend to agree, dead is dead, but for the typical hunter that NEVER shoots over 400yrds, the .243win is more "efficient" at putting meat on the table. No, it might not make up for a paunch shot as well as a .30-06, but a vital shot with a .243win will do the job even way down town, with less punishment on your pocketbook, and on your shoulder.
