Default sighting in shotgun ?????

ok my first year hunting and my buddy lives in a shotgun only county

heading up there soon to go deer hunting, just picked by a mossberg 500 with a scope

my ? is would it be better to sight it in at 30 or 50 yrds, i was thinking 50 but looking for advice from experianced hunters ??

at 50 yards you want to be 2" or 2.5" high

Sight it in for 50 yd's, and I agree with BHC, have it a little high at that range. You should be able to hit a deer at 100 yd. with the right slugs. If it's a smooth bore, use an IC choke and "foster" slugs, if it's rifled, use saboted slugs.

hey i have a mossberg 500 and i use hornady 2 3/4 inch 300gr sabot slugs if you go get those sight it in at 50 but sight it so it does not shoot high cause i did that and t a hundred it was shooting the same as 50 so sight it in right on

So far so good but what barrel does it have?If it's rifled you could sight in dead on at 100yds.If not go with 50.
