How do you guys store your guns?
 

Just woundering how everyone around here stores there guns for a longer period of time?

Do most people relieve there firing pins?

I run a patch through saturated with solvent at least twice--then two passes with the bore snake--then another solvent patch--then dry patches until clean--I've cut the brushes and tail from another bore snake, use just the front section with oil, two passes with the oil--wipe all the metal down with the gun rag---all my long guns are bolt actions so it's easy to relieve the firing pin---

clean and oil, put in the fire resistant safe with a 4 lb bag of silica gel

The cleaning part i do but does anyone use snap caps? or do you just dry fire the gun the relieve firing pin pressure?

ya maybe im just wording it wrong. I guess what im saying so when the gun is stored the firing pin is not ****ed back and ready to fire.

Take the safety off and pull the trigger.

Yup. I lower my springs before I store all of my weapons. Most guns, I leave dropped on a snap cap, some I just drop (dry fire), but I don't usually ever leave them ****ed.

After a good cleaning and light coating with gun oil, they go in my safe. I have a 40 watt light bulb burning in there to keep it warm and dissapate the moisture.

With a bolt action, after cleaning re-install the bolt and before closing pull the trigger and hold while you close the bolt. This will prevent the firing pin slam of a dry fire.
