best brush round for the .270
 

I am hunting in brush this fall and was wondering what a good choice of round would be for my .270. Recently have been shooting the Remington Core-Lokt, and don't have anything against it, but would like to try something new. Any suggestions?

Best to have a good scope and pick a hole in the brush...

There is no such thing as a "brush bullet". Never has been.
If a bullet touches a piece of "brush" it will be deflected.

The best way to get through brush is to use smaller diameter bullets fired at very high velocities. The smaller diameter the bullet the less likely it is to touch something. The faster it is driven the more force it takes to destabilize the bullet.

The best way to hit an animal reliably is to wait for it to move into an open shooting lane. The lane just has to be big enough for you to accurately get the bullet to the target.

So many tests have been done by so many people, over the years debunking "brush gun" thoughts I don't know why the idea persists.

I've seen bullets hit some small branches the scope didn't pick up that have deflected rifle rounds going from the slower .44 mag round all the way up to the .270/30-06 range. The branches saved the deer every time. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

STick with your Core Lokts, a "Brush Bullet" Doesn't exist. SHot placement does.

if your going to hunt in very thick woods i suggest using slugs out of a shotgun. they can punch through brush pretty well and have good stopping power.

It is true, there is no good bullet for busting brush. If I were hunting with a 270 in brushy country, I'd pick a bullet of stout construction. Then just focus on finding that small opening to sneak a bullet through to the target.

Old logic would say use a 150 grain round nose bullet in the brush for that 270.
