IMO no need for a 12ga out to 200yds, past that maybe, but I don't see many shooting past 200yds with a slug regardless of a 12 or 20, and at common distances, 50yds, 75, 125, 20 has plenty of juice IMO, I'd take an accurate 20ga over a powerful 12 any day.

Get the 20 gauge. The 12 is overkill IMO. Shooting 12 gauge full-house slugs eventually drove me to muzzleloading instead. I've used an H&R 20 gauge fully rifled that drives tacks and the recoil is very tolerable. With the 12 gauge you have much, much more recoil for maybe a slight advantage in killing power when you are talking about deer. Now if you were hunting large bears, it might be different....
