New CCW Permit. ?? On a Carry Gun

Folks,
I recently received my CCW permit here in WV. I've been kicking around a few gun ideas but wanted to run something by you.

I own a Chiefs Special (1956 pre-model 36) S&W revolver in 38Spl. Its a 2" snub nose. This was my dads backup gun and quite frankly rarely fired.

Instead of going out and purchasing a new gun, what do you think of this gun for concealed carry? If it's a decent idea, what holster would you recommend?

Thanks

Of course it's a decent idea. Tons of good holster makers out there. Try Don Hume or El Paso Saddlery for starters.

I carried a S&W model 10 with a 2" barell as my plainclothes gun. Worked great, easy to handle and to conceal. I carried in a shoulder holster from Hume.

You could use it, nothing wrong with it, but not my first choice, and here is why. Use it until you can buy a new(er) gun to carry, and keep your dad's piece at home. My mom inherited a similar model, model 61? 5 shot 38 snub. Love the balance and heft of it, but at the same time, I would prefer it stays at home, and not being carried, and risk damage. I prefer semi-autos, but thats a personal preference. I do like a good revolver, and Smith made some damn fine ones for carry.

CC Gun

Carried a Model 10 for years. Moved up to a model 19 (357) 2 1/2 inch and used that for years. My "summer gun" (easier to hide in light clothing is a Kahr P40. It has surprisingly good accuracy.

For a duty gun, I have a Taurus 24/7 Pro in 45 ACP.

38 special is sort of minimal. You can carry more potent defense calibers in small, handy and manageable pieces. However, any gun is better than no gun!
