Default Best choke 4 buckshot

I just picked up a Remington 1100 with a 28" full choked barrel. I want to use this for jumping deer and shooting a slug and buckshot will the full choke be ok ? I will be hunting swampy area and dense vegetation..

I don't know about full chokes for slugs. I know I've heard of people doing it, but I also know a guy on a local forum used a poly choke on full with a slug and blew it off of the barrel. However, I doubt that will happen with a fixed or screw in choke. I'm just not sure how they will do or really anything about them since I've never shot slugs.

As for the buckshot, I've found it's really what your gun patterns best with. For me with 3" 000 buckshot, or 3.5" 00 buckshot I've found my best pattern to be with a full choke, so that's what I use. However, another guy I hunt with has a similar gun, and he gets better patters with a modified choke. So it really depends on your gun, however I've had good experiences with a full choke and buckshot.

Most would say, not to use a "tight" choke with buckshot or slugs.

Recommend the most open choke that still gives you "good" accuracy when shooting slugs (defiantly NOT a full choke).

Buy several diff brands of shells and different size shot and try different chokes and pattern at 40 yards. My rule for buckshot is to get atleast 8 pellets in a 12" circle at 40 yards. My Mossberg 835 does best with Win. Super X 3" 00 buck with a full choke but most likely yours will pattern different. Hope this helps.

Try the full choke for buckshot first though if that's what you have, because like I said, my shotgun prefers a full choke with buckshot, but some friends have ones that don't. It just depends on the gun. A buddy has an 1100 with the 30" barrel that is a fixed full choke, actually several buddies have them and all of them shoot amazingly with buckshot. So, I'd try yours out without buying anything else, and if it doesn't shoot well, then try others.

Just like sighting in a rifle there are no hard, fast rules...

Down here in the south we use buckshot for dog running deer...Many of the guys get great patterns with a full choke barrel and buckshot...You will need to try several different brands and chokes...Same with slugs, some full choke barrels shoot slugs well, since slugs are lead they will conform to the barrel quite easily...

You might have better luck with smaller buckshot like #1s or number 4 over 000 and 00 buck...

Before buying a new barrel see what the one you have will do...

I will be using this gun when I am a pusher on drives, so I will buy some buckshot and test the full choked barrel first.

Thanks guys
