270 recoil?
You guys probably remember me posting about getting a 270win in the last week or 2. Anyway, i decided to go with the axis, I did alot of research and i discovered that the axis has the same barrel and action as the savage 110 and that its only drawbacks are the heavy trigger and the stock, I personally handled one and i love the stock. But the trigger was heavy, but clean. So i found out that the trigger is EXTREMELY easy to lighten so I will just do that. But, I was wondering how bad the recoil is on a 270 win? When i was in oklahoma, i shot a remmy 710 in 270 and i dont particularly remember it hurting at all. But my uncle also had a 12ga pump action with a long barrel that kicked like crazy with some dirt cheap walmart bird shot, it had no pad and a hard square but, but that kinda has me paranoid about getting a punishing gun to shoot. I'm a 16 year old heavy set lacrosse player so im definitely tough and not some twig of a nerd. Should I even look into getting a slip over recoil pad for my new gun?

If you're of that build, you shouldn't need a pad. Just make sure you get it into your shoulder good and it'll just push you back a little. Guys get smacked when they don't have proper shooting form a lot of times. Also, make sure you have eye and good ear protection on when shooting.

here hold on a minute, i'll post a video of me shooting that 710, then you can see me and standing form, and how i handle a 270

Size, age, hair color and toughness have nothing to do with felt recoil...
Gun design, weight, posture when shooting and a dozen other things do... As mentioned, wear earplugs...The sharp sound of a gun makes one jump... When sighting in, put on a lifevest, this will help absorb recoil...Also, adjust the rest and bench so you are sitting up straight vs bending down into the buttstock... |

Me shooting the 270win in the back you can see about an eighth of the hunting land i get to roam when i get to go to oklahoma for the summer. In the video it was in the heat of the worst drought since the 50's so its not as green as it should be |
I consider the recoil of a typical 270 Win. load out of a "typical" factory grade rifle as being moderate.

there not that bad 270s r pretty average shooters on recoil no sweat to shoot

It also depends on the grain bullets your shooting. I have a .270 and I reload hot but have noticed that if I use 130 gr soft pt the recoil is less than the 150 gr or even 140 gr. Like mention just nestle the gun in tight to your shoulder sqeeze and just get used to it. Its not that bad at all. Its in peoples head it kicks alot.

Put a pachmayr pad on it and just go about your business.
