Default Ported Vs. Non-ported

What are the Pro's and Cons?
The Choke I'm thinking of getting is a HS Strut Undertaker tube. they are 5* by the reviews and only $20 but it's the same price regardless of whether or not it's ported.

Thank-you in advance for your wisdom

Ported helps reduce the felt kick by directing the gas'.In some cases the ports slots can catch the wad petals causing poor patterns with some loads.

I have a 12 ga Winchester model 1300.
I got both a ported, and non ported choke at the same time to see how they perform.
They were both in the same .665 size.
The only difference between the two was the ported choke was way loader on my ears.
They both shot the same pattern, the non ported had a little tighter pattern.

I put the ported choke in my gun stuff, and used the non ported choke.
The felt recoil was the same for both.
So I would get the non ported choke.
Or buy both, and take back the one you don't like.

JMHO Good Luck.

Not a secret that the whole purpose of porting is to allow the some of the gasses to escape radially thereby mitigating some percentage of the recoil force. The down side is also well known .... the sonic shock wave pattern is also more radial and results in a "louder" report for the shooter, and therefore a greater chance of hearing damage.
