.270 or .308

So i asked about my two guns, now im curious as too what you guy think about a gun for my fiance. Shes pretty short and has a bad shoulder so I dont want to get her anything with much recoil. I was thinking .270 or .308. She never hunted before but wants to learn and i figure either one of these two would be good for deer. What are your opinions?:patriot:

7mm-08 might be the right compromise, or even a .243 or .260

Perhaps get a semi-auto, Browning BAR?

or how about a .25-06?

sore shoulder...female....def not a 7mm08...like a 223 or 243..25-06

As the others have said try looking at the 223, 243, or the 260. While the 308 and 270 are excellent big game cartridges, they would not be good choices for beginners and/or someone with a bad shoulder.

The 7mm08 doesn't kick much more than a .243. I can attest to that personally. I have a 7mm08, and my father has a .243 that I've fired a few rounds through.

Still, if recoil may be an issue, the .243 would probably be the better choice. The best thing to do is take her to a range where you can either rent different caliber firearms, or if you know someone with various calibers that would let her shoot them, you should do that.

Oh, the 308 doesn't kick much more than the 7mm08. The 7mm08 is a necked down 308 after all. The 308 will kick noticeably less than a 270 will. The 308 can also take the same game as the 270 with no appreciable difference one way or the other.

First recommendation is a .243.

Something you might want to consider is an AR platform in .308 (way less recoil).

.243 is a good choice. Has she ever shot a rifle before and what do you own that she could shoot?

out of the 2 you mentioned,270 & 308 the 308 has a little less recoil.but as everyone eles has mentioned the 243 would be the better choice.
