Do you think a 6mm-06 would catch on?
Would you rather see a 6mm-284?

Perhaps if they marketed it for heavy bullets with high BC for the .243...such as 105, 115gr?
Fast, Flat, High BC

Perhaps marketed for big game, kinda a new .25-06, or .270, flatter, with higher BC?

The .240wby has great ballistics but wouldn't a 6mm-06 instantly be way more popular since it comes from the '06 case?

Course with the magnum craze perhaps there's little demand for a 6mm-06??

What do you guys think?
243 WSSM...great little round...IMHO

What he said...I can't find any loads that match those results...

If you are wanting a big cased 6mm that does hardly nothing over the 6mm rem., but burn a lot of powder, why waste your time with the 6-284 or the 6-06, just get a .244 H&H mag. It is made by necking the .375 H&H mag. down to a 6mm neck size and was possibly one of the biggest flops of all time. A classic example of a overbore cartridge, far to much powder capacity for bore size. Its performance was not significantly better than either the .243 or the 6mm rem., but it sure looks impressive and it will waste alot of powder and eat up barrels.

I would think that the 25/06 Rem. is for all practical purposes a 6mm/06 when it comes to performance. I am not a fan of the SM's and would not even consider an SSM's. I had a 300 WSM and it cycled poorly. I am guessing because of the shoulder angle. But , hey, I am old .... and stay with what works. Hard to beat the 30 cal. cartridges that have been around for decades .... 30/30 Win., 30.06 Spr. , 308 Win., 300 Win. Mag.

I've owned a 25/06 and my boys both have 243s and with Barnes bullets in either you'd be hard pressed to notice any difference in real world effects on deer sized game. But realistically I've always felt that when most folks buy a 6mm they are doing it for 1-2 main reasons, they want 1 gun that is suitable for varmints and deer sized game and/or they are buying a big game rifle for light recoil for either women/kids or they just to enjoy smaller guns themselves. When you start hot rodding the 6mms with big cases and alot of powder you kind of start taking away their allure and if you are going to put up with more muzzle blast and recoil you might as well shoot a bigger bullet. A whitetail shot at 300yds with a 6mm bullet isn't going to be able to tell you if it came from a 243, a 6mmRem or a 240Wby.

IMHO spend some honest time with the 243 and quality bullets and you'll only grow to love it more with each passing year...

Least that's the way I see it after 20 years of selling guns in the sporting goods biz in the mid-south,
HL

Right on..

I have a .243 and a 6mm Rem and really they spend a whole lot of time in the gun cabinet.
