What do you think of these?

I am a "newbie" here. Better yet, I'm probably a "wannabe". You see, I've never been hunting before. This coming March, I'm signed up for the Hunter Education course, and then will finally (at 40 yrs old) be getting a hunting license.

Please check out my new firearms. What do you think would be the best game to go after with them? The weird thing about me is, I'm a lefty, and I notice that a lot of firearms are NOT lefty.

The Marlin .22 is just like I had when I was a kid. Sweet little thing. I remember popping a squirrel off my mom's birdfeeder when I was 15 (man, was she pissed!). The Remington 12GA is brand new and so far, I've went out and tried to bust a few clays with it (man, that's hard to do!). Thanks for any advice. This is a great forum! :)

Thanks... Yeah, AOL is pissing me off. Their webserver for homepages is having problems. You have to hit &quot;reload&quot; or just try clicking the hyperlink a few times. It *will* load and show a .jpg image of my guns.

.22 go for squirrels and rabbits and close range coyotes and little stuff. W/ the shotgun you can hunt deer(with a slug barrel) and everything else that is huntable pretty much

ButchA Welcome to the board.I was with AOL one time but that's a whole new topic.AOL is anti gun .Your picture wouldn't pull up for me either.Your .22 is great for small game.Your 12 ga depending on your barrel can be used for most anything. Mod or Improved cylinder great for birds. Slug barrel for deer and larger game. That's a smart move taking the hunter's safety course. You'll learn allot there.I wish you the best in your hunting adventures.Ruger Redhawk

Welcome ButchA, everyone already gave you advice on your guns and what to hunt with them so I'll skip that.

Welcome to the board . I don't know what I did wrong but your picture came up fine of your guns .The 870 does look different being left handed .

Butch you should get you hunting license,by the time turkey season opens up there, there sure is plenty of them up there. The 870 will work fine on them.
I have a model 60 also very accurate 22.
Very best of luck in your hunting.

Butch,
Welcome aboard the mother ship. We don't wear life jackets here you can take it off now.LOL

Those are nice guns and don't worry about a slug barrel if you can't afford it this year. The old timers were using rifled foster slugs for a hundred years. Use those and the deer fall over just as hard.

Use a skeet shooter and not the hand thrower at first because the hand thrower is faster thus harder to hit. Get instructions and someone to help you with your form. And don't give up.

I've got 2 Marlins, ones a 22lr bolt and the other a 22mag bolt. Remmember the ten rules of gun handling. If you don't know them, speak up, we'll help you learn them. The hunter's safety course is a MUST!

RE: What do you think of these?

Thanks everyone :)

I grew up shooting a Marlin .22, so my new Marlin is like an old friend. (lost track of the original one from the 70's - I think my dad gave it to a friend of his, once I moved away from home).

Anyway, Virginia has a law where the Hunter Education course is MANDATORY, and that's fine. I want to learn and understand what hunting is all about. I have respect for hunters and the hunting community, as man has been hunting for millions of years.

This coming March, I'll be taking the course, and then spring Turkey season will start in Virginia April 13–May 18, and I'll be ready.

I've used the new Remington 870 busting clays with some friends over the last couple of weekends. Wow - is that hard to do! My first time out, I think I hit only 3 of the clays out of a 25 box of shells. I was using the stock Remington modified choke and #8 shot shells. I need to pick up some different choke tubes for the 870 and then some camo clothing, etc..etc..etc... I can see where hunting can be an addicting sport! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
