Best ammo for Rem. 7400????
 

Again I ask the internet experts......

What is the best ammo for the Remington 7400. The one that delivers the tightest pattern at 100 yds? Tell me the brand, grain, everything. I have got to get this accuracy problem fixed. Thanks again for your help, and all the suggestions are appreciated.

You are going to have to try several different types. Some may shoot well...but may also jam. I' d start with the core-lokts. They seem to be good hunting loads, and are fairly cheap.

You may end up having to buy a higher shelf ammo to keep the " ultimate jammer" at bay.

Every gun is different. Two guns that came off the line in a row may shoot the same load completely differently. Buy a few different boxes and start shooting. For the .30-06 try 150 to 180 grain bullets. Buy a box of Remingtons, Winchester, Federal. You will never know what will shoot best in your gun until you try it out.

Well, I suggest Federals with Sierra Gamekings. If a gun can' t shoot those, it has problems. You just going to have to play around. Keep that forearm screw tight. If it loosens, your POI will change alot.

Out of my 270 7400, I load 130gr Sierra Gamekings and 45gr of IMR4350 with Fed 210 primers and get 1.2" groups.

Don' t expect too much out of a 7400 as far as accuracy. Remember it is a semi.

I had best luck with Core-lokts in 165 out of mine. I shot many others but the gun didn' t seem to like to function right unless they were the 165 rems. The gun shot the sierras by far the best. However, it didn' t always cycle right. The 165 core lokts were pretty accurate around 2 inches at 100 yards. Plenty to kill

Well, if its a 270, I had great luck with the Federal 130gr Sierra Gamekings when I didn' t reload. The coreloks got around 3.5" groups at 100 yards. The feds got around 1.5" . So now I reload with these bullets and with 54gr of 4350 and a little longer COL I match those fed groups.

when i owned my rem 7400 in 270win. i tried almost every grain and bullet type out there. never could find a good one.

but i did find the federal classic HI-SHOK' s did the best.

I use Winchester Super X 150 Gr. Power-Point CXP3. I don' t know about the grouping but it shoots where I aim :p.

My old hunting buddy who has passed on now used his 7400 for twenty years. He shot Winchester super X 150 grain Power points all the time. He bought them by the case to get the same lot numbers. That gun never jammed once and alway shot 1 1/2 of better groups. They are a fairly accurate gun as a rule. Have a gunsmith check it out and see if the action is operating right. How old is the gun? Some of the older ones developed a gas works problem that can,t be fixed. They can however be converted to a pump by Remington or approved gunsmiths. My nephew has one of those.
