New member saying hello
Hello to all
I am new on the forum and wanted to say hello. I am trying to read a lot on here so any question I have wont be a "beating a dead horse" question to bring up past threads. I have had mostly handguns since moving to Calif back in the 70's when i was 6 but had a beautiful Winchester 30-30 back in Maine that me grandfather kept when we left. I just today purchased a Marlin 1895SBL 45-70 guide gun that I cant wait to shoot :fighting0007:. Im going to be spending time in Idaho and Alaska so I wanted a rifle that would take dawn a T-Rex if needed. All I need now is a good scope for it. Any suggestions from others that have this rifle? Thanks in advance for answering any off the wall questions I may have. I will be asking a lot of reloading questions in the near future (will make sure Im in the correct forum when I do) Tim |
Welcome to the forum!
Purchase optics with a good lifetime warranty and quality construction/materials. Personally, i would not scope the gun for the purpose you describe; but you need to choose what is best for you. It all depends on what you want. As to brand or model, you will need to look at the optics yourself to see what you like. Be aware there are material differences between some of the factory offerings in the 45-70. Some factory loads are lower power to be safe in Sharps replica rifles. |
country1,
Thanks for your reply, I sure like the look of this gun without the scope but have seen a few with a forward mounted one that wasn't too big and looked awesome. With the eyes getting a little older I would want something to help with the 100 to 150 yard shots (maybe even longer if I'm feeling lucky) I will be using Hornady 325GR FTX as my everyday load but if I am in Grizzly country I will switch over to Garrett 45-70 +P 540GR Hammerhead loads. I know they are a little on the expensive side but I will always use better rounds to make sure that I know how the round will perform. I take no chances with bears!! Anyone have this gun with a scope that would like to share what they have and maybe post a pic or 2? Thanks :) |
