The Thompson Venture uses 5R rifling which should be a big plus.

I like lite rifles, because I perfer to still hunt.
I chose the TC Venture for that reason, plus because of the "other" features. However, I own a Remington 700 SPS DM in .243 and it shoots under MOA with factory bulk ammo. |
The Rem 700 has been around for a long time and has proven itself in both the field and in mil. application. But I've also been hearing some good reports on the T/C. I'd suggest you take her to the gun shop and let her decide which one she wants.
I remember back when I started hunting and went with my dad to pick out a rifle, I despretely wanted a Win 88 in .308 or .284 and express it to him, HE decided on getting me a 760 in .308. For a 12 yr old boy about 5'2" and 100 lb. that was one heavy rifle and although I appreciated it and would never tell him, I really didn't care for the rifle and traded it for a Rem 600 in 6mm when I turned 18. |
I would stick with the plain remmy vs. paying extra for camo put on the same stock as the sps. It's the same gun. If it were me i'd buy the sps then buy a laminate stock which can be bought cheap if you look for them on sale, and have yourself a really nice gun.
