Default Smith and Wesson 686 thoughts

I'm interested in purchasing a 686 in either 4 or 6 in. I'm leaning toward the 6 in. for a better option for hunting/ self defense. I would probably use as a concealed carry on an infrequent basis. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

I don't think you will find a better DA revolver. I carried a 4 inch on duty when I first joined the force. I still love them.

Love my 686 SSR with the 4-inch barrel. You may find it hard to conceal a 6-inch 686.

I agree with Scotts, the 6 inch would be rather tough to conceal as a carry weapon of any style other than on a hip holster. I had one and really like it on a shoulder rig more just a piece of mind than a carry piece for concealment. I more times than not carry it in snake country. Nice nightstand gun, hip carry, not conceal carry.

Thanks for the input. I guess it comes down to how much accurracy I'll loose going from a 6 in to a 4 in. If its negligible, I'll probably go with the 4 in. I just remember how accurrate my Dan Wesson /6 in. was.

Default revolver

ever think of looking at a ruger GP 100 in a 6" barrel. it will hold up under heavy loads better than the 686. jmo.
