Good 22. rifles
 

I know the ruger 10/22 is a good rifle but 2 of my brothers have it. i was looking for an afordable 22. rifle thats not a 10/22

Well really I don' t know why you wouldn' t want one. Probably the best semiauto 22 on the market for the price. Plus you can acessorize to your hearts content. Whatever you do stay away from the Remington 597. It is pure crap.

Well it depends on what you want the rifle for and expect of it. Savage and Marlin both make a good budget to mid $200' s rifle. CZ makes a great .22 bolt but the price is going to be a little higher. http://www.czusa.com Thompson Center has two .22 semi' s out now, the Classic http://www.tcarms.com/tc22classic/index.html and the Benchmark Classic http://www.tcarms.com/22benchmark/index.html . I havn' t shot the Benchmark but have shot the Classic and like it a lot, would love to try out the Benchmark. Kind of hard to over look the Ruger 10/22 though. I would still go with the ruger 10/22. You just can' t beat it. If you want it to be different from your brothers, go stainless.

Look at the Marlin model 60. You can get it in Stainless and Synthetic. It' s tough to beat and I' d put it up against any 10/22. Plus, you get 15 shots with it' s tube magazine vs. 10 with the magazine fed 10/22 (unless you pay the big bucks for high capacity magazines). I' ve had both rifles. The Marlin 60 is still shooting quarter size groups with 15 shots after 3 years of shooting. The Ruger 10/22 Target was sold after the first 5 months. (3 of those 5 spent back at the factory fixing the stinkin' trigger).

Get the all weather 10/22 there great guns (all 10/22s), accurate and reliable cant ask for more than that.

Marlin 60,great little guns,easy to mont scopes.Mine holds 17 rounds kills jack rabbits all winter long some 16 years of shooting.

Join your brothers. Get a Ruger 10/22. You won' t regret it. Like Frizzelr said stay away from the Remington 597.

If you' re looking for an affordable rifle straight from the box, take a look at the CZ' s. My CZ will shoot right with my much more expensive 22 bolt rifles. For accuracy I' d stick with a bolt and pass over any of the 22 autos. Although an auto can be fun to play with.

I have had more than a couple of 10/22' s and every one has been a good rifle. If you want to stray from that and get maybe a quality bolt look into CZ' s. I just purchased a stainless(electro plated) synthetic model and it is very high quality.

like the others said the best semi is a 10/22 and you can accessorize it so yours will look nothing like theirs...a good cheap 22 has to be the marlin model 25 i think...its burried under my bed or id look.....its a bolt action.....i have acheap crappy tasco on mine and outshot a pretty nicely setup 10/22 many times....me and my 22 were best buddies...up the mountains i can shoot it like a kid shoots a bb gun and have no worries...pop cans and things like that i would shoot...shotgun empties...i shot all kind of wierd things i probally shouldnt have...all free hand shooting unless it was popcans at extreme ranges...it really helped me start to learn a good form and hold my gun steady..but i love that gun..i cant wait to get out with it and pop a few tree rats! and its only about 100-125 bucks.....you cant beat it...all depends what you want in a 22 though....you may want a target gun.....or a semi.....or a good hunting gun ect......

The Ruger is a great .22, and you should reconsider it. Barring the 10/22, gun stores are full of marlin model 25' s which is a great rifle. I bought one in the mid ' 80' s and did a quick estimate that I have shot 80,000 rounds though it, with no problems. I am sure you can pay alot more and get less than with a model 25. The only drawback I see is a capacity of 7 cartridges. Let us know what you decide on!

Aside from cleaning and replacing the front sight I' ve shot a zillion trouble free shots through my 10/22 in the last 25 years.
Personally I hate the tube magazines, I like being able to pop out the magazine and load it as I' m walking along. (Something that is pretty tough with the tube types) I have several clips and just keep a loaded one in my pocket while we are out hunting rabbits, or I' m busy loading one while my daughters shoot the other one when I take them out shooting.
I would never buy anything but a 10/22.
There are a lot of cool parts too, Cabelas has pages of 10/22 items.

The 597 is a piece of junk. One of the worst weapons made in the recent past.

the only thing that i didnt like about my brothers 10/22 is that the bolt doesnt hold open on the last shot. i have a remmington viper that is no longer made. although it went back to the factory once it has been great the last thousand rounds or so. also bought one of those henry lever guns that jammed a bit also till it got repaired. the model 60 i had needed replacement parts soon after i bought it. if i had a choice to just buy one gun i think it would be a bolt 22. a little slow but probably more stabil.

I just got a Ruger 77/22, and it shoots like a champ. With the longer barrel and laminated stock, it feels like my deer rifles, so it' s great for practicing. It costs more than the 10/22, but I really like it.(it looks good too!!)

I have the all weather 10/22 and it unbelievably accurate. Of course the 3x9x40 on it helps quite a bit. I also have the 22/45 made by ruger and feel the same way about it. Ruger makes a great .22

depends on what you mean by good. I have a Marlin bolt 22 with a 7 shot magazine/clip that shoots so well it is unbelievable. Unfortunately it is not a very comfortable fit for me. The scope set-up I have and the stock itself are not such a good set-up. But b/c the recoil is not a factor I can get away with it. shoots like a drean though and groups well with a lot of different ammo' s. I usually have to spend some time at the range each time I get a new brick of ammo,...but once I dialed it in I' m good for the entire brick usually.

As as been mentioned, I don' t know why you wouldn' t want a Ruger 10-22... best .22 LR for the money. But I have a Marlin Model 90 that has been a good rifle... accurate and never jammed yet. I keep it clean and use only high quality jacketed ammo and that helps the dependablility a lot.

One of the strongest points of the Ruger is how you can accessorize it.

22!![X(] go with a 22mag a bit bigger than a 22 get marlens 22mag with a 7 shot clip i have killed ground hogs up 183 yards!!!

They sure shoot like they are bent. All the dust they have been collecting would probably ruin the aerodynamics.:D

Just depends on what you are going to hunt with it. Rabbit hunting with a 10/22 or Marlin 93 lever is hard to beat and squirrel hunting with a CZ bolt is hard to beat.

I say get what fits you best. We' re not talking a custom rifle here. Most .22 caliber rifles will serve you just fine for what you can use them for. The Ruger 10/22 is easy to get aftermarket parts for. But why would you want a 300.00 .22 ?(after adding a few accesories) If you just want something to " look cool" . If you want an expensive, custom and very accurate 22 then buy a Kimber or a Cooper. And there is nothing wrong with the Marlins, they are not the largest gun maker in America for nothing. They sell more 22' s than most of the others combined.

My Marlin Model 60 is very accurate and has never jammed.....I like it.
