.325 WSM-new gun?
 

I'm looking to buy a .325 WSM this summer in a Browning composite hunter. Anyone use this caliber? Anyone own one of another make like Winchester or Savage? Any reloaders for this caliber? What animals have you taken with this caliber? I'll be using the .325 for elk, mule deer, and bear. Thanks for your input.

I'd strongly suggest you just get a .300wsm if you want a .325wsm!

The .300 and .270wsm are here to stay IMO, the .325 is a maybe...the 7mm is pretty much dead.

If you want more than 180grs from a .300wsm for elk,bear,and deer, get a .338win.mag. or .340wby

..... The man said he wants a.325 WSM. He wants to hear from people who have one.

Already got a .338 Win. Mag. Wanted to get a Remington 300 SAUM, but it looks like Remington doesn't make them any more. Not listed in the 2011 catalog. Like the .325 because its between the 300 and 338.

A .300 WM and a .338 WM would make for great bookends !!!


Would be my choice.................Classic cartridge guy though.


Never found a reason to use a short mag ??

I own a .325 wsm Model 70 Ultimate Shadow & I have mixed feeling about this gun. I have taken a 450lb black bear last fall & a Yukon moose with this gun & it preformed flawlessly on these animals. If I were to do it over again I would have just purchased a .300 win. mag; it will do the same thing & it will be around forever. The .325 is a "fad" cartridge just like the .30 TC & the prices for bullets will do nothing but increase & be difficult to find a good selection. If you know what you are getting into before purchasing this gun I say go for it; it will make a good addition to any gun collection but it isn't the most sensible caliber to choose in my opinion.

This country has never flocked to 8mm cartridges. Americans instead prefer to stick with the 300's and .338's. I am afraid that the 325(8mm)wsm is doomed the same fate as the WSSM's, SAUM's, 30TC, 338 Marlin Express, etc...etc...

If you originally wanted a .300rsaum then why shy away from the 300wsm?

Honestly the 325wsm would only duplicate what your .338Win is already doing.

If you like to reload and don't mind the shortage of available 8mm bullets then go for it. If it were me I would go the 300wsm. It will be here forever.

If he reloads he won't have to worry about the .325 going away. Simply neck up the 300WSM to .325 and there you have your .325wsm. I had thought that if I were to ever get a rifle chambered for WSM then the 325 would be what I went for. I have a .350 Rem mag so my short magnum rifle tag is filled.

Pallidin is right. If you reload you have no worries. I also own the 325WSM. And IMO it is a great round. Mine is in the Browning Microhunter and with 200 gr Nosler Accubonds it will easily shoot under an inch 5 shot groups all day long. I shot groups as small as .64" C-C with it. And you can reform 300 WSM brass to 325WSM without any problem. True the 300 WSM is probably more versitile but the 325 packs a bit more thunder, especially with 220 gr bullets.
