I think the .260 Remington is a fine choice if you handload. If you don't I would choose something else.

From your list looks like you are missing a fast .22 cal or a 6mm though.

Another vote for the .243. It is great for everything from praire dogs to medium sized game.

It is an outstanding round. Perfect for all kinds of varmints, and well suited for deer with good loads and good shots.

I share the feeling of not using it for "big" deer, though my largest deer ever fell to my .243.

Smack dab in the middle of your spread (.224 to .284) lies the .257 caliber, but I think you'd love the .243 Winchester.

.243 or .25-06 no question about it.

I know its a bit under cal than what you're looking for, but what about a .204? If you're looking for an increase in power over the 22 Hornet, but less than the 7-08 (which I am assuming is your deer rifle), why not a more potent .22 cal. Something like the 22-250, .223, etc. I vote for the .223 because you can buy ammo really cheap if you don't reload, its fun to shoot, with the right bullet it can be used for deer, is available from almost every rifle manf.

I am looking for something in between the 22 and 7mm08.
Thinking about a .243 or .260.
No arguments about the 7mm being better or the same as the .260 please. I am aware of the ballistics and bullet weights etc.
Just want to fill the niche in between with a 6mm style

thoughts?

Not to get off your topic but I see you have a 270 WSM and was wondering what your thoughts of it is? good caliber? do you like it?:confused0024:

Another vote for the .243 especially if you dont handload.Ammo is readily available just about @ any sporting goods store or big box store.
